UHMWPE Fiber for High Strength Rope

Features of the high strength PE fiber ropes:
Light weight: The weight of the PE fiber rope is 1/8 of the steel rope in the condition of the same breaking strength.
High strength: The strength of the PE fiber rope is the same of the steel rope if they both have the same diameter.
Small elongation: The breaking elongation of the PE rope is roughly equal to the steel rope’s.
Small diameter: The diameter if the PE fiber rope is only 55%-60% of the nylon rope or polyester rope’s diameter in the condition that they have the same breaking strength.
Small specific weight: The specific weight of the PE rope is only 0.97 which can make the rope float on the surface of the water.
Durability: Good extension performance and bending performance, good aging resistance and good chemical erosion resistance.

UHMWPE fiber are widely applied to the voyage, aerospace, marine engineering, industrial, sports leisure, and other fields
Voyage: Mooring rope. The UHMWPE fiber have the highest strength-weight rate among all the composite fibers including nylon fiber, PE fiber and aramid. The strength of the UHMWPE fiber mooring rope is about 10 times of the steel rope in the condition that they have the same weight. The UHMWPE fiber mooring rope can be easily found in the water because it can float on the surface of the water. So it can be salvaged before the sink or being intertwined. Besides, the UHMWPE fiber is hydrophobic, so it cannot be corroded by the ocean water and successfully be applied to the voyage. The UHMWPE fiber mooring rope can be used by the ocean vessels, avoid the threatens from the fractures of the ropes, reduce the weight of the ropes and prolong the working life of the ropes.

Industrial application: Crane ropes. We can use less and lighter UHMWPE fiber crane ropes to replace heavier polyester fiber ropes and more quantity of polyester fiber ropes. The smaller elongation of the UHMWPE fiber crane ropes can help the crane operating personnel to positioning the large and heavy parts on the machine accurately. The UHMWPE fiber crane ropes are soft which will not damage the expensive parts. The UHMWPE fiber crane ropes are durable and have long working life.

Sports leisure: The ropes and locks of the sailing can be made of the UHMWPE fiber which has smaller elongation rate, lighter weight and quite excellent strength can control the ships better. The ropes can not only ensure the high load carrying capacity, but also slip the pulley faster and grasp the winch and help sailors command the voyage more precisely.

Aerospace: The ropes which are made of the UHMWPE fiber are applied to the emergency rescue system of the “Shenzhou”4, 5, 6, 7 manned spacecraft.

Zhejiang Taizhou strengthen rope factory developed the first rope which has 8 strands and the diameter is 40mm with the UHMWPE fiber in July, 2001. The line density of the first rope is 910g/m and the fracture strength is 7323kN. The rope are successfully applied to the launch of the Shenzhou 4, and it satisfied all the performance standards on the capsule simulator salvage test. In June 2003, the factory developed another rope which has 8 strands and the diameter is 40mm using the UHMWPE fiber again and the rope passed the test from the ministry of agriculture. The diameter of the rope is 36mm and the pull fore can be 64.64t and the performance of the rope beyond the test request of the Shenzhou 5. The rope can compete with the similar products all over the world.
